St. X, Edgewood top coaches polls
Both one victory away from title

St. Xavier and Edgewood each need one more victory to claim The Cincinnati Enquirer's 1999 Coaches Poll championships.
The Greater Catholic League-South champions, St. Xavier (8-0 overall) was the unanimous choice in the Division I poll after stunning Cleveland St. Ignatius 50-33 Saturday.
Scott Mutryn, a Parade All-American who quarterbacked St. Ignatius to the 1993 national championship and a current assistant coach at St. I, had nothing but praise for St. Xavier.
“(Scott) told me after the game that this St. X team could go toe-to-toe with the 1993 St. Ignatius team,” Cleveland Plain Dealer reporter Eddie Dwyer said.
Edgewood took over the No.1 spot in the Division II-VI poll after previously undefeated Wyoming was upset by Indian Hill 28-14 Saturday.
“That was by far the biggest victory in the history of the school and I'm so proud of the kids,” Indian Hill coach Kevin Siple said. “Wyoming had a 22-game Cincinnati Hills League winning streak. We were the last CHL team to beat them in 1996”
After losing to Madeira 27-0 the third game of the season, Siple moved Vic Cole from guard to fullback which turned the offense around and the defense also started playing up to expectations.
