Plummer, Demmerle win scholarships
Two Cincinnati-area natives Ahmed Plummer (Ohio State) of Wyoming and Cameron Demmerle (Centre College) of Fort Mitchell, Ky., were among the 15 winners of National Football Foundation scholarships, announced Thursday.
Plummer, Ohio State's defensive captain, is a three-year starter and a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, given to the nation's top defensive back. He is a business and human resources major, a four-time Ohio State scholar-athlete and has been recognized for his involvement with the Boyz to Men mentoring program in Columbus and Campus Crusade for Christ.
Demmerle, a Beechwood graduate and a nose guard for Division III Centre, was one of only two Division III players chosen. He's working toward a double major in religion and economics, is a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and is a four-year defensive starter.
Winners of the scholarships are chosen on a combination of grade-point average, football ability, leadership and citizenship. The 15 winners each receive an $18,000 post-
graduate scholarship. One of the 15 will receive a $25,000 scholarship known as the Academic Heisman.
