Tip for trimming down
BY SUE MacDONALD
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Local health experts recommend simple ways to get a grip on overeating and obesity:
Don't super-size meals at fast-food restaurants. When ordering meals, split an entree with a spouse or friend.
Eat a variety of different foods, and don't overeat.
Chew food slowly. Keep meals quiet and calm, not hectic and filled with other activities or interrupted by TV.
Walk 20-30 minutes a day (try it without headphones) to burn calories and have time to think and relax. Make exercise a regular part of every day.
Think seriously about why you eat and begin to confront the underlying emotions that send you to a bag of cookies, a half gallon of ice cream or a late-night snack.
Don't use food as a punishment or reward. Reward children (and others) with hugs, praise and words instead of candy bars and food.
