Grand Rapids 2, Cyclones 1
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A tough defensive effort and 31 saves by goaltender Mark Fitzpatrick were not enough in a 2-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night.
With 37 seconds left in the game, forward Yves Sarrault netted his first goal of the season to break at 1-1 tie.
Sarrault's goal came while Cyclones defenseman Steve Bancroft was in the penalty box for cross checking.
The Cyclones finished their first road trip of the season with a 3-2-0 record. The three wins away from home are the most by an IHL club this year.
It was a shame to lose this game and end this trip like this, Cyclones coach Ron Smith said. Any time you go into the third period with a lead, you expect to finish it off and get the win. That just didn;t happen tonight.
We're really looking forward to finally getting home to play in front of our fans.
