Elder runners beat La Salle; St. X cruises

A week after being defeated by LaSalle at the Greater Catholic League championship meet, Elder exacted revenge on the Enquirer's Division I city champions.

Elder placed four runners in the top 10 to score a 43-46 victory over LaSalle in the first race of the Division I district cross country meet at Voice of America Park.

Steve Padgett won the race for the Lancers, covering the 3.1 miles in 15 minutes and 32 seconds, 49 seconds ahead of Turpin's Matt Meurer.

Elder, LaSalle, Moeller and Milford qualified to regionals next weekend at Troy.

In the second race, defending state champion St.Xavier had 45 points, 31 ahead of Fairfield. Kings (102) and Colerain (106) also qualified to regionals.

Lakota East's Jerry Claunch won in 15:45.

Hillsboro edged out Gallia 57-60 for the Division II district title at Rio Grande.
