State senator seeks police policy review
State Sen. Mark Mallory, D-Cincinnati, is calling for a review of the Cincinnati Police Division's use-of-
deadly-force policy.
The senator's request comes in the wake of the third fatal shooting by Cincinnati police this year.
Saturday, Carey Tompkins, 28, was fatally shot by a police officer who struggled with him over a gun.
We need to find out what happened, why it happened and how we can prevent such tragedies in the future, Sen. Mallory said. In light of these three shootings, the police department should review its policy regarding the use of deadly force.
The senator added that this most recent shooting took place within blocks of his home.
He sent his request to Police Chief Thomas Streicher Jr. in a letter Thursday.
Michael Carpenter, 30, was fatally shot March 19 by two Cincinnati police officers during a traffic stop in Northside.
On Aug. 20, James E. King, 44, was shot and killed by four Cincinnati police officers following a bank robbery in Corryville.
