City gives go-ahead for new postal facility

Now that the U.S. Postal Service has decided on a site in Bond Hill for a new distribution center, the work begins on making it happen.
On Wednesday, Cincinnati City Council unanimously gave the city manager authority to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Postal Service.
We're at a starting point, said Bonni Manies, spokeswoman for the post office in Cincinnati. The pact means the Postal Service is making a commitment to keep the facility, and its 2,300 jobs, in the city, Ms. Manies said.
The Postal Service has outgrown its Queensgate processing and distribution center and has been looking the past year for another site. City officials have lobbied to keep it in Cincinnati.
The memorandum reflects a preliminary understanding between the city and the Postal Service. Final agreements still need to be approved.
According to a copy of the memorandum, a 60-acre site, most of it part of the Pauline Warfield Lewis Center in Bond Hill, is the likely location. The project will likely take several years to complete, Ms. Manies said. It will require the purchase of some land and the relocation of portions of the psychiatric hospital.
