Prisoner escapes from Queensgate

Police extend search throughout the night

BY CHRISTINE WOLFF
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A prisoner climbed over a fence Sunday afternoon at the Queensgate Correctional Facility and, with sheriff's deputies chasing him, disappeared into a steel yard.

Tony Lee, 22, of the 1800 block of Fairmount Avenue, in jail awaiting trial on numerous charges — mostly drug-related — remained free Sunday evening after eluding police during a 90-minute search of the area.

Hamilton County sheriff's deputies and Cincinnati police officers searched on foot and with a tracking dog and helicopter around Mehring Way, Third, Linn and Gest streets.

“It became obvious he was out of the area,” said Lt. Nick Coyle of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Mr. Lee — 5 feet 10 inches, 200 pounds — scaled the fence about 4:45 p.m. while outside for recreation at the facility, 516 Linn St. Officers chased him south and last saw him running into the industrial area.

Police found the shirt from his blue jail uniform a short distance from the jail.

Sheriff's detectives were to work through the night checking for Mr. Lee at former addresses, Lt. Coyle said.

Mr. Lee has long, curly hair, a beard and moustache. He was last seen wearing the jail uniform, a blue shirt and pants.
