Notre Dame satisfied with 12th in Ky. golf

RICHMOND, Ky. Only one of Notre Dame's five players broke 100 Wednesday during the second day of the girls state golf tournament, but the Pandas figured playing a second round at Arlington Golf Country Club was a victory in itself.
Notre Dame's 818 (405-413) over the two days was last among the 12 teams that made the cut and was 141 shots behind three-time state champion Glasgow's 677. The Pandas' reaction? So what.
Our goal was to make the second day, senior Missy Hite said. We could've had a few better scores, but to make the second day is good.
Sophomore Jenny Brake said all the pressure left the Pandas Tuesday, when they edged Trigg County 405-406 to make the first-day cut and beat Sixth Region rival Trimble County by 16 shots.
I think what motivated us was that we beat the people we wanted to beat, Brake said. We wanted to beat Trimble County, because they beat us in regionals.
Once Notre Dame made Wednesday's field, however, their games left with the pressure.
Senior Molly Martin's 19-over-par 91 was the lowest score Wednesday; her two-day 187 also led the team. Senior Meghan McGee shot a 196 (93-103), followed by senior Missy Hite with 213 (104-109), Brake with 222 (112-110) and sophomore Erica Heiny with 238 (114-124).
Dixie Heights freshman Emily Culbertson completed her first state tournament with the best score among Northern Kentuckians. She rebounded from Tuesday's 93 with an 88, and her 37-over-par total of 181 tied her for 36th place, 24 shots behind the 157 of winner Morgan Hapney of Glasgow.
