N.KY. FOOTBALL PREVIEW
Wreck mars meeting of 3A rivals
BY NEIL SCHMIDT
The Cincinnati Enquirer
When archrivals Covington Catholic and Highlands meet Saturday, it will have been 15 days since the Colonels played a football game. And nearly as long since they felt like it.
CovCath sophomore defensive back Brad Fritz remains in fair condition at University Hospital, recovering from head injuries suffered in a car accident Sept.18. The Colonels have visited him at the hospital.
He's improving all the time, but it's one of those things that stays with you, CovCath coach Lynn Ray said.
Highlands (4-1) also doesn't view CovCath (2-3) with its normal pregame fervor.
They're our rivals, but there's always a bond between football players, Highlands coach Dale Mueller said. To know another football player has been hurt takes away from the frenzy of the game.
Kickoff is 2p.m. Saturday at CovCath.
The highlight of tonight's schedule is Holmes' visit to Conner. The Bulldogs are 5-0, a year after going 1-9.
We're excited, Holmes coach John Vander Meer said. But things get a lot tougher starting now.
