Oxford city logo close to adoption

BY RANDY McNUTT
The Cincinnati Enquirer

OXFORD — The familiar uptown clock and lamppost might soon be everywhere.

City Council has approved the first reading of an ordinance to adopt a logo — using the clock and post — for the city.

After a second reading Oct. 5, the ordinance will become official unless something unforeseen occurs before the meeting, said Council Clerk Donna Heck.

The logo consists of the High Street lamppost and clock next to the words “City of Oxford.” The words “Home of Miami University” are inside a black bar beneath the large letters that spell “Oxford.”

The logo is expected to appear on stationery, vehicles, employee uniforms, entrances to the city, employee identification cards and washable throw carpets at the Municipal Building.

Recently, Service Director Michael Dreisbach told council that a logo task force, consisting of a cross-section of the city employees, discussed various ideas.

He said the task force wanted to incorporate some architectural feature and something about Miami University, which is in Oxford. A designer came up with the final product — a clean- looking logo that should be highly visible on police cruisers.

The logo also will go on the elevated water storage tank, a 500,000-gallon tank on Contreras Road,
