St. Ursula soccer upsets nationally ranked McAuley
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Less than 24 hours after earning the No.19 ranking in the USA Today national high school girls soccer poll, McAuley fell from the unbeaten ranks.
Two second-half goals by Tracy Veith lifted St. Ursula to a 2-0 victory over the Mohawks (6-1) in Girls Greater Cincinnati League action Monday at St. Ursula.
After tying Alter last week, this was a big league game for us, St. Ursula coach Steve Dorr said. McAuley controlled the first half and outshot us 9-2, but our defense held.
Taking a centering pass from Danielle Patton, Veith scored with 8:13 remaining and put the ball in the net a second time five minutes later.
Goalie Emily Bohart recorded her fifth shutout in seven games.
The upset victory was St. Ursula's second in three days. The Bulldogs knocked off Fairfield, ranked No.1 in The Enquirer coaches poll, Saturday.
In other GGCL games, Jessica Fear scored 20 minutes into the first half, giving Ursuline a 1-0 victory over Roger Bacon. Badin and McNicholas fought to a 1-1 tie.
In the Associated Press soccer poll released Monday, Division I's McAuley (2nd), St. Ursula (5th), Lakota West (9th) and Division II's Summit Country Day (2nd), Roger Bacon (8th) and Badin (9th) were all ranked.
