The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — Former Ohio Gov. John J. Gilligan will be the featured speaker Friday at the annual Butler County Democratic Party Truman-Kennedy Dinner.

The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. at the Receptions and Conference Center, 5975 Boymel Drive., Fairfield. Tickets are $50 per person. A reception will be held for Mr. Gilligan from 5:30-7 p.m. at a cost of $75.

Admission to the reception is free for all Democratic officeholders and all Century Club members.

Mr. Gilligan was governor from 1971 to 1975. He also was administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development from 1977 to 1979. He was a professor and special assistant to the president of the University of Notre Dame from 1979 until 1991.

Mr. Gilligan, 78, recently announced his candidacy for the Cincinnati school board.

Those at the dinner will have the opportunity to vote in a straw poll for the Democratic presidential nomination between Vice President Al Gore and former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley.

Richard Cordray, a Columbus lawyer who ran unsuccessfully for state attorney general last year, will speak at the dinner as an advocate for Mr. Gore. A letter from Mr. Bradley also will be read at the dinner.
