Man accused of kidnapping ex-wife
BY SHEILA McLAUGHLIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer
On the run after allegedly abducting his 25-year-old ex-wife from her Clermont County apartment late Sunday, Michael Reese called his relatives in Columbus from a cell phone in a stolen van.
He assured them he did not intend to harm Renee Bollman. He only wanted her to watch him die, police said.
Tuesday, less than a day after Springboro police arrested Mr. Reese following an armed standoff in a shopping center parking lot, the 31-year-old Woodlawn man faced more charges.
Pierce Township police in Clermont County filed a charge of kidnapping against Mr. Reese for allegedly snatching Ms. Bollman from her convertible and forcing her into a van in the lot of the Fairways at Royal Oak apartment complex on St. Andrews Drive about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. He was charged Monday with inducing panic and receiving stolen property.
The incident came a week after a Clermont County judge released Mr. Reese from jail on a domestic violence charge involving Ms. Bollman and ordered him to stay away from her, police said.
A search for Mr. Reese began about 11:30 p.m. after his relatives called police. Two hours earlier, officers had responded to a report of a possible domestic disturbance in the Fairways parking lot, but found nothing, Township Police Chief Terry Colley said.
About 11:30 p.m. or midnight, we got a call from the arrested's brother that (Mr. Reese) had called and said he abducted his ex-wife and that he was going to kill himself, Chief Colley said.
Ms. Bollman's car was discovered later in the parking lot of an adjacent apartment complex, Chief Colley said.
Police said Ms. Bollman called authorities from Springboro Pointe Shopping Center after escaping from the van about 1 p.m. Monday.
Negotiators talked Mr. Reese out of the van after six hours. He is jailed without bond at the Warren County Justice Center.
