Cell-phone calls credited with limiting fire damage Fire damages antiques shop

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP — A fire early Tuesday did about $100,000 in damage to the roof and ceiling of the Hay Loft Antiques store in Landen Square Shopping Center on Montgomery Road. There were no injuries.
Fire crews were called to the center shortly after 12:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the rear of the store, said Deerfield Township Deputy Fire Chief Nathan Broemen.
Early notification by cell phone callers helped minimize the damage. “We were looking at probably a several-million-dollar loss” if the fire spread to other shops, Deputy Chief Broemen said. “A lot of (damage) was above the store and the ceiling area.”
The township fire rescue department and the state fire marshal's office are investi-
gating. Units from Mason, Loveland-Symmes, Hamilton Township and Union Township/South Lebanon also were called to the fire.
