Bethel woman killed in crash near Batavia
A Bethel woman was killed in a two-car crash near Batavia Saturday afternoon.
Patsy Moody, 53, died at the scene after her car was hit head-on. The accident took place at 3:39 p.m. about 11/2 miles south of Batavia on Ohio 132.
The driver of the second car, Christopher J. Dale, 19, of Batavia, was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated and released late Saturday night.
According to troopers at the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Batavia post, Mr. Dale was driving north on Ohio 132 when his car went left of center and rammed into Ms. Moody's southbound vehicle. No citations had been issued Saturday night in the accident, which remains under investigation.
Zoo probes death of endangered orangutan
Bob, a 131/2-year-old Sumatran orangutan at the Cincinnati Zoo, died Friday. The cause of death is unknown.
The orangutan came to the Cincinnati Zoo in 1990 and shared the Jungle Trails exhibit with three female orangutans and three white-handed gibbons, zoo staff said. Bob was on loan from the Omaha Zoo, but came to Cincinnati from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas.
Sumatran orangutans are highly endangered and typically live 40 years or more in captivity. Zoo veterinary staff will review results of a post-mortem exam to determine what caused Bob's death.
Man, 43, charged with rape of girl, 13
A 43-year-old Bond Hill man was being held Saturday in lieu of two $50,000 cash bonds on charges that he raped a 13-year-old girl.
Carlos Orso, 43, of the 700 block of Greenview Place, was arraigned Saturday by Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Ralph Winkler.
The alleged incidents occurred last year, officials said. Mr. Orso was arrested Friday.
Police investigating colleague's car crash
Cincinnati police are continuing to investigate why a police officer crashed his marked police cruiser into an office-supply store in downtown late Friday.
Officer Doug Frazier, 29, was treated and released from the Christ Hospital a short time after the crash.
Authorities said Officer Frazier was driving the cruiser northbound on Reading Road shortly before 11:50 p.m. when he ran a red light at the intersection of East Liberty Street.
His patrol car struck a westbound vehicle driven by Audrey Cordray, of Clifton, and then crashed into the Staples store at 1400 Reading Road.
Officials said Officer Frazier was not operating the vehicle in an emergency mode at the time.
Ms. Cordray was not injured.
Man shot outside Westwood store
A 21-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after a shooting outside a Westwood convenience store.
Elijah Wheeler, address unknown, was shot twice Friday night, once in the leg and once in the stomach, Cincinnati police said.
No arrest had been made Saturday. Police were searching for a black male, between 16 and 20 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 230 pounds with a light-colored plaid shirt and dark shorts.
Police were called to the Saveway Supermarket, 3627 McHenry Ave., shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Motorcyclist dies after hitting car
Charles Baker, 45, died from injuries he suffered in a Friday morning motorcycle crash in Miami Township, Clermont County.
The Milford man was driving his motorcycle eastbound on Ohio 131 near Naomi Drive about 6:30 a.m. when a car pulled out of a side street and into his path, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Mr. Baker flipped off his motorcycle.
Jason H. Price, 23, of Mount Washington, was driving the car. He was not injured.
Police said they were investigating the accident.

Two men attacked robbed
