Child agency levy on ballot

        HAMILTON — The embattled Butler County Children Services will have a 2-mill levy renewal on the Nov. 2 ballot.

        The Butler County commissioners voted Thursday to place the levy on the ballot.

        Voters defeated the agency's 2-mill levy renewal last November and a 2.4-mill levy in May.

        If this levy fails, agency officials have said, they will have to reduce the staff from 136 to 48, and cut the annual budget from $17 million this year to $10 million next year.

        Children Services would run out of money by next year's end, forcing the county to pay for state-mandated children services from its general fund.
