GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Going out
        • Women in music: Hear Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, the Pretenders, Patty Griffin, Indigo Girls and more at Lilith Fair, 3:30 p.m. today, Riverbend Music Center, $31-$59.50. 562-4949.

        • Lilith preview: Singer, songwriter and Lilith Fair artist Jennifer Knapp will perform and sign autographs noon today at Lazarus in the Florence Mall.

        • Irish dance: Riverdance — The Show opens today at the Aronoff Center, 8 p.m. Performances continue through Aug. 22. $35-$65. 241-7469.

        • After work: The Q102/Bud Party takes over P&G Pavilion, 5:30-9 p.m. today, Bicentennial Commons at Sawyer Point. Food, beer, music by Forehead. 763-5686.

        • Fair days: The Indiana State Fair opens today at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. 6 a.m.-1 a.m. daily, through Aug. 22. $5; free children 5 and under. (317) 927-7500.

        • Bengals camp: Practice 9:35-11:45 a.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. today, Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky. $5 to park, $25 buses.

Staying in
        • TV picks: In real life, world leaders sometimes used doubles. A fake Henry Kissinger strolled the streets of Washington, while the real one was negotiating in Paris. This was too good for Hollywood to resist: Dave (8:30 p.m. Channel 12) has Kevin Kline as an ordinary chap, filling in for the seriously ill president.

        • That Thing You Do! (9 p.m., VH1), a 1996 film, is as infectious and likable as its title song and its creator. That's Tom Hanks. He wrote and directed the movie and took a small role as a record-label guy.

What's in stores today
        • On disc: Hot Coko (RCA; $16.99; $10.99 cassette) is the solo debut from SWV's Coko (Cheryl Gamble) with guest appearances by Tyrese and Eve (of Ruff Ryders).

        • Ride with Bob (Dreamworks; $16.99 CD, $10.99 cassette) is the country release of the week, says Enquirer music critic Larry Nager. Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, the Dixie Chicks, Lyle Lovett, Reba McEntire and even the Squirrel Nut Zippers join western swing revivalists Asleep at the Wheel in another all-star tribute to Bob Wills.

Brand spanking new
        • More than time: Timex's new TMX line of watches ($28-$33) for kids and preteens has a mystery answer function and a screen saver mode. Ask a question and press the button on the watch and it will display one of 14 randomly chosen responses such as “sure,” “maybe,” “can't tell” or “no way.” Press another button to activate the screen saver, which replaces the time display with a computer-like flash of patterns.

Planning ahead
        • A Day Away: Downtown Theatre Classic's Nunsense opens 8 p.m. Thursday, Jarson-Kaplan Theatre, Aronoff Center, downtown. Continues through Aug. 29. $25, $20 students and seniors. 241-7469.

        • 48 hours out: The Great Inland Seafood Festival kicks off 5-11 p.m. Friday. Also noon-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-10 p.m. Sunday, Bicentennial Commons at Sawyer Point. Samples $1.50; whole lobsters $9.95. 291-6572.

        • 72 hours 'til Saturday: All That Music and More Festival, 5 p.m. Riverbend Music Center. 98`, Monica, EYC, No Authority, B*Witched. $17.50-$37.50. 562-4949.
