Glendale called to aid family
BY MARIE McCAIN

GLENDALE Hoping to show a family that they are not alone in their time of need, organizers of a donation drive are asking Glendale residents to help some of their own.
Donation barrels for clothes and toys have been placed at the fire station, 80 E. Sharon Road, and at the village hall, 30 Village Square, Glendale Fire Capt. Tom Benjamin said.
A faulty appliance caused a fire that destroyed the Siry family home on Washington Avenue on Monday.
No one was seriously injured. Daniel Siry, who was home with his grandson at the time, was treated at Mercy Hospital-Fairfield.
We typically don't get involved in something like this, but this being such a small community, we felt we needed to do something, Capt. Benjamin said.
The small frame house has been home to several generations of the Siry family, neighbors said.
Mr. Siry, in his 60s, is a former Glendale police officer and is widely known in the village, said Village Administrator Walter Cordes.
This whole thing once again speaks to hometown communities, he added. This is incredibly like Glendale to come out and support its own.
Besides Mr. Siry, the house was occupied by his two adult sons, his 5-year-old grandson and his 3-year-old granddaughter.
Donations of childrens' clothes and toys and men's 2XL-size clothes would be helpful, Capt. Benjamin said. In addition, donations to the Siry Fire Fund can be made at Fifth Third banks.
