LaRosa's picks six finalists




        The six finalists for the 1998-99 LaRosa's female Athlete of the Year Award are:

        Chrissy Donovan (St. Ursula Academy), Jennifer Dreyer (Mother of Mercy), Julie Neiser (Notre Dame Academy), Erin Phenix (Ursuline Academy), Erika Schmitt (Harrison), and Dallas Williams (Mason).

        Donovan is a triple talent in basketball, softball, volleyball. She earned 11 varsity letters during her career. She will attend the University of Dayton on a basketball scholarship.

        Dreyer, a cousin of Donovan, was one of Ohio's premier volleyball players and was named city Player of the year. She also played basketball. She will attend Kent University on a volleyball scholarship.

        Neiser is the top volleyball player in Northern Kentucky and led her AAU team to sixth place in the national tournament in Orlando, where she was named All-American. She will attend South Carolina on scholarship.

        Phenix concluded her prep career with 10 Ohio state gold medals and never finished lowed than third in any state tournament. She will attend the University of Texas on a swimming scholarship.

        Schmitt graduates with a slew of schools records in both volleyball and basketball. She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and aspired to become a doctor.

        Williams led her school to a state runner-up finish in basketball and was named Enquirer Division I Player of the Year for the second straight season. She will attend the University of Pittsburgh on a basketball scholarship.

        The winner will be announced at the annual Buddy LaRosa's Sports Hall of Fame Banquet June 19 in ceremonies at the WCET studios.
