Watson likely at Kroger
BY JACK MURRAY
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Tom Watson has all but committed to the Sept. 24-26 Kroger Senior Classic at the Golf Center at Kings Island.
Watson, 49, said Tuesday that he plans for this week's Mastercard Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, to be his final career appearance at a non-major on the PGA Tour.
Watson's remaining summer schedule will include only the U.S. Open and British Open. He would add the PGA Championship, if given an exemption, or the Sept. 24-26 Ryder Cup, if he were a captain's pick. The defending Colonial champ said his summer will be dedicated to vacation time and preparing himself for the Senior PGA Tour.
Watson turns 50 Sept. 4, making him eligible to make his senior debut at the Sept. 10-12 event in Indianapolis.
I want to sit back, take a deep breath and get into the best mental and physical shape I can get in to come out fast on the Senior Tour, Watson said Tuesday. At this point, that means this will be the last regular event I'll play before the Senior Tour.
He's won 34 events, including eight majors, in 25 years.
Watson hasn't announced at which event he will make his senior debut.
