CINCINNATI HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Tennis draw tough on locals
The pairings for the Division I and Division II district boys tennis tournaments Thursday and Saturday weren't favorable to Cincinnati athletes.
Both of Cincinnati's Division I and II sectional champion singles players and doubles teams drew into the same half of the bracket, creating the possibility of semifinal showdowns.
Thomas Cloud Park in Dayton will be the site of the Division I district tournament. The Division II tourney will be at Princeton High School.
First- and second-round matches will be played beginning at 9:30a.m. Thursday. Each player and doubles team will get an hour off before playing second-round matches.
Action resumes Saturday with semifinal, championship, third-place and fifth-place matches (Division II only).
The top four finishers in Division I and top five in Division II advance to the state tournament next week at Ohio State University.
Eric Pittman, the defending Division I singles state champion from Sycamore, meets Fairmont's Ben Jackson in a first-round match.
Cincinnati West sectional champion Brian Butt from Middletown Fenwick had the toughest draw.
After playing Matt Jones from Dayton Stivers in the first round, Butt probably will meet Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy's Jason Zimmermann in the quarterfinals.
Baseball
Madeira and North College Hill are the first Cincinnati baseball teams to play in district championship action today in Division III games at Bellefontaine.
In the 3p.m. opener, Madeira plays Carlisle; North College Hill will play Miami East at 5:30.
The winners advance to next week's regional tournament in Hillsboro.
Track
Anderson and Fairfield high schools will play host to the Division I boys and girls track preliminaries beginning at 4p.m. today. The finals are 6:30p.m. Friday.
The Division II and III girls track preliminaries will be Thursday at Amelia along with the boys Division II and III field events finals.
