N.KY. HIGH SCHOOL REPORT

Boone County gets lift from Knothole veterans

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Becky Bishop and Amber Janneck preferred baseball over fast-pitch softball, and until this season the Boone County duo played on a Knothole team.

“I guess a lot of their friends talked them into playing softball,” Boone County coach Patti Oliverio said. “Both of them have been a tremendous help to us.”

In a 15-3 victory over Fern Creek on Saturday, Bishop and Janneck played important roles as the Rebels improved to 18-11.

Bishop went 3-for-4, including two doubles and three RBI, and Janneck had two hits.

        • Ryle 10, Bishop Brossart 0 — Junior Amber Brady pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, and collected two hits in three at-bats, including a triple and three RBI.

“Brossart didn't hit a ball out of the infield,” Ryle coach Lisa Brockhoeft said.

Baseball
        • Jim Conner Classic — Covington Catholic and Dixie Heights will play for the championship of the Jim Conner Classic at 1:30p.m. today at Turkeyfoot Junior High after both teams won two games Saturday.

Pitching played an important role in Dixie's 8-0 victory over Highlands and in a 9-1 triumph over Beechwood in the semifinals.

Brett Dietz drove in three runs, and pitcher Tony Maynard went the distance for Covington Catholic in it 10-2 victory over Simon Kenton.

In a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross, Jon Hembree drove in all three runs.

        • Owen County Invitational — Bishop Brossart defeated Conner 10-0 and Owen County 15-0 to capture the title.

During the sweep, Justin Clark broke two single-season Brossart records and tied another, all held by Roger Keller since 1987. By going 4-for-6, Clark set the record for the most hits (53; was 49) and RBI (50; 48), while tying the home run record with 11.
