N.KY. HIGH SCHOOL REPORT

Brossart cruises by Highlands

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Justin Seiter continued his mastery of the Highlands baseball team.

A Bishop Brossart junior, Seiter struck out seven and didn't allow an earned run, giving the Mustangs a 7-3 victory over the Bluebirds in Alexandria.

Early in the season, Seiter threw a one-hitter against Highlands.

        • Lloyd 11, Simon Kenton 1 — Although the Pioneers lost, it was a victory of sorts for senior Derrick Lemox, who batted for the first time this season for Simon Kenton.

One of Northern Kentucky's most promising players, Lemox underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery in January after suffering an injury during an indoor soccer game.

Lemox wasn't expected to play this season but was cleared by doctors Monday and was inserted into the lineup by coach John Finn as a designated hitter.

On the first pitch, Lemox smacked a single to center field and drew applause from the players and spectators who were aware of the surgery.

But,senior Dan Wirth was in control for the Juggernauts, striking out eight.

        • Newport Central Catholic 12, Beechwood 2 — Junior Matt Sharp hit a three-run homer in the five-run second inning, and Jason Roderick smacked his 10th homer of the season in the three-run first inning.

        • Dixie Heights 5, Boone County 0 — Junior Tom Unkraut struck out 12 and allowed only four hits. Kyle Rader paced the offense with four hits, including a home run.

        • Grant County 10, Walton Verona 8 — Nick Keitz singled, stole second and third, and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth inning for Grant County.

        • Ludlow 9, Holy Cross 8 — A two-out double by sophomore Preston Robinson in the seventh inning drove in the winning run for the Panthers.

Fast-pitch softball
        • Bishop Brossart 10, Campbell County 3 — Leanne Phirman tied a single-game school record with seven RBI for the Mustangs.

Slow-pitch softball
        • Bellevue 12, 14, Silver Grove 10, 8 — Eighth-grader Stephanie Wilson notched her 11th and 12th victories of the season and drove in five runs to pace the Tigers.
