Austin pulls out of title defense
BY JOHN ERARDI
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Tim Austin will not defend his world bantamweight International Boxing Federation crown this weekend in Miami.
Don King Promotions announced Tuesday that the Cincinnati native had pulled out of the bout because he had not recovered sufficiently from his knockdown in a title defense six weeks ago.
In that fight, Austin was knocked down in the fourth round by Mexico's Sergio Aguila. Austin rallied to knock out Aguila in the ninth round to defend his share of the title.
I got off the canvas and won the fight like a champion should, Austin said after that fight. This shows that I have what it takes once someone catches me with a shot.
It was Austin's eighth straight knockout but the first time he had been forced to fight a ninth round since 1995.
Saturday's bout has not been rescheduled.
