Dayton unveils Dragons

The Associated Press

DAYTON, Ohio — The city's minor league team will be called the Dayton Dragons.

The team announced the name and logo Monday on Courthouse Square.

The crowd cheered when a tarp was raised to reveal a towering, green inflatable dragon.

The Dragons will be the Class A affiliate of the Reds and will begin play next April in the Midwest League.

Construction has begun on a $23 million downtown stadium where the Dragons will play.

The team, which is owned by Mandalay Sports Entertainment, now plays in Rockford, Ill., as the Rockford Reds.
