CINCINNATI HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Sycamore, Purcell throw no-hitters
Purcell Marian junior Eric Simmons, making his first varsity start against defending Division II state champion McNicholas, threw a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory Wednesday.
I didn't know I had a no-hitter until after the game, Simmons said. They had a runner reach base, and I thought it was a hit.
After losing 12-1 to Alter on Tuesday, Purcell Marian coach Tom Nerl put the team through a rigorous practice.
Coach was upset, and I knew we had to win today, Simmons said.
Harrison 5, Northwest 1 When Ryan Smith got the call from coach Dave Bader, the sophomore outfielder was ready.
Smith, promoted to the varsity last week, drove in five runs, including a bases-loaded double in a three-run sixth inning.
He batted in the ninth spot but is the type of kid who's not afraid to step up, Bader said. Hopefully, he has found a home.
Fast-pitch softball
Sycamore 22, Middletown 0 Sophomore Katie Quay, pressed into action because of an injury to another pitcher, responded with a no-hitter in a five-inning rout.
