CINCINNATI HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Colerain runners impress
Colerain junior distance runners Mason Ward and Alison Zeinner were the talk of the meet Saturday at the Raleigh (N.C.) Relays held at North Carolina State University.
Ward broke a 15-year-old record of 4:15.3 in the 1,600 meters, covering the distance in 4:12.23.
Less than 40 minutes after the 1,600, won the 800 meters in 1:56.5
The 1,600 state championship was won in 4:12 last year, Colerain coach Ron Russo said. It's early, but Mason is already running a time that could win it.
The defending Division I state champion in the 3,200, Zeinner won the event in 11:08 with teammate Alison Bedingfield taking third in a national qualifying (Junior Olympics) time of 11:14.
We only took five runners (four girls and Ward), Russo said. The people in North Carolina couldn't believe how well we ran.
Defending Division I 3,200 meter state champion Brian Godsey turned in two outstanding performances for Lakota East on Saturday at the Ryle Relays.
Godsey anchored East's winning 6,400 meter and distance medley teams, coming from behind in both events.
