'Wally's Words': Attention enjoyable, but tiring

As the Miami RedHawks prepare to face Kentucky in the Sweet 16, Wally Szczerbiak, Miami's senior All-America forward, is keeping a diary of his experiences this week, as told to The Enquirer's John Fay.

Today was more back to normal. The WCW wrestling (Monday) night was great. It was fun. A CBS crew went there with me. That's how I ended up in the ring.

It wasn't a great day for the media to get me today. I had class from 8:30 to 12:30 — three different classes — then practice from 1:30 to 4. Then I had to lift at 5:30 and then had another class 6 p.m. A lot of people wanted to talk to me, so we had to to squeeze everything in.

I did Jim Rome's The Last Word show on Fox Sports Net. I'm a fan of his. I listen to his radio show. I like the controversy. Some people might not. He's pretty funny.

I also did interviews with ESPN, USA Today and the New York Times. It's getting a little tiring. But Mike Wolf, our sports information director, makes sure to keep this separate. He knows the most important thing is basketball. If the media stuff takes away from that, we'll back off.

I enjoy all the attention the team and I are getting, but we've got to stay focused on basketball.
