A painting in the Chaim Soutine exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum now belongs to the museum.
The landscape View of Ceret (1919-1920) has been given to the CAM by the Sara Lee Corp. as part of the company's Millennium Gift to America.
Sara Lee announced in June 1998 that it was giving its collection of French Impressionist and early modern art to 24 American art museums. Invited to select one work for the collection, CAM director Barbara Gibbs picked a painting from An Expressionist in Paris: The Paintings of Chaim Soutine. The exhibition opened at the CAM on Feb. 14 and continues through May 2.
The painting will then join the other Sara Lee gifts for a tour of five museums, ending at the Chicago Art Institute next year. After that, the painting will return to Cincinnati to take its place in the CAM's collection.
