Yard waste drop-off sites reopen Friday

BY BEN L. KAUFMAN
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Hamilton County's yard-waste recycling drop-off sites will reopen Friday at three suburban sites:

        • Evans Landscaping, 3700 Roundbottom Road, Newtown.

        • Kuliga Park, 6717 Bridgetown Road, Colerain Township.

        • Rumpke Sanitary Landfill, Struble Road off Colerain Avenue, Colerain Township.

Hours will be 3-5:30 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday through April 25.

From April 30 through Oct. 24, hours will be 3-6:30 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday.

The Oct. 29-Dec. 5 hours will be the same as those for March and April, and Dec. 11-Jan. 8, sites will be open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays only.

        There are some exceptions.

Evans will accept waste during regular business hours in addition to those listed above and all three sites will be closed on Easter, July 4 and Christmas. The yard-waste program sponsor, Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services, also has a hot line, 946-7755. Callers can ask for the free Yardwaste at Home Handbook.

That said, there are some rules for yard waste brought to the sites:

        • Branches and trees must be cut in lengths 4 feet or less and may not be larger than 12 inches in diameter.

        • Brush and branches must be tied into bundles and weigh not more than 75 pounds.

        • Yard waste must be brought in containers or bags and brown paper bags are preferred.

        • Yard waste will not be accepted from commercial vehicles or establishments.

        • No pallets, boards, bricks, stones or soil will be accepted.

        • The program is open only to Hamilton County residents.
