Bacon, Purcell roll into sectional final




        Roger Bacon jumped out to a big lead and 12 players scored Monday night, lifting the Spartans to a 101-65 victory over Ross in a Division II sectional semifinal at Anderson.

        The Spartans opened a 46-27 halftime lead.

        Roger Bacon will try for its fourth consecutive sectional championship at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Purcell Marian.

        • Purcell Marian 77, Goshen 69, Division II sectional at Anderson — Purcell made 14 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off a late Goshen rally.

        Jaime Cooper sank eight-of- nine down the stretch to ice the game.

        Purcell never trailed after taking a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter. The Cavaliers full-court press held Goshen to 21 first-half points.

        Cooper led all scorers with 31 points.

        • East Clinton 65, Twin Valley South 52, Division III sectional at UD Arena — East Clinton made 13 of 14 fourth-quarter free throws to hold off Twin Valley South. The Astros were 24-of-28 from the line overall.

        Wes Boggs and Matt Miller both turned in strong fourth-quarter performances, combining for 17 of the team's 19 points.

        East Clinton advanced to the sectional finals against Greeneview at 7 p.m. Friday.

        TWIN VALLEY SOUTH (52) — Good 7 5 20, Lindloff 2 0 4, Crews 2 0 5, Freshour 1 3 5, McIntyre 5 6 18. Totals: 17 14 52.
