Sergeant is evaluated

HAMILTON City police officials will wait for a sergeant's psychological reports before deciding whether to discipline him for allegedly choking a detective.
Sgt. Joseph Booher has been charged with unsatisfactory performance, inefficiency of service and conduct unbecoming an officer.
A Nov. 24 discussion at the police station between Sgt. Booher, 38, and Detective James Cifuentes turned into a scuffle, according to department records.
Sgt. Booher put both hands around the detective's neck, authorities said.
Sgt. Booher refused an of fer of six months of counseling, saying a psychiatrist and a psychologist he hired to evaluate him disagreed with a city-hired psychologist's diagnosis of a personality disorder.
He is fighting disciplinary action and is on paid leave.
He appeared with his lawyer, Jonathan Fox, at a pre-disciplinary hearing Monday.
Regulations require the department to decide on disciplinary action within five work days of a hearing.
But Capt. Murray and Mr. Fox said both sides agreed to extend the deadline to permit the mental health professionals hired by Sgt. Booher to send their reports to Dr. James Daum, the city-hired psychologist who examined Sgt. Booher.
