Projected seeds and analysis

BY MIKE DeCOURCY

EAST
1. Connecticut
2. Maryland
3. UCLA.
4. Ohio State

Analysis:
UConn's victory at Stanford without Richard Hamilton solidified No.1. Maryland rebounded from back-to-back losses. OSU and UCLA are both young and athletic.

SOUTH
1. Duke
2. Auburn
3. Arizona
4. Miami, Fla.

Analysis:
Blue Devils have left no doubt. What doubters existed about Auburn are fading; they've won school record 22. Arizona notch below usual form. Miami an up-and-comer.

MIDWEST
1. Cincinnati
2. Kentucky
3. St. John's
4. Wisconsin

Analysis:
Top seed is UC's to lose. How sweet would this be: a UC-UK game to decide a Final Four berth? St. John's has proven it can play with anyone. Badgers lost twice last week.

WEST
1. Michigan St.
2. Stanford
3. Utah
4. N. Carolina

Analysis:
Spartans have earned No.1 with nine straight wins. Loss to UConn costly for Stanford. Young Utah real sleeper. Utes have won 13 straight. Tar Heels young, big and improving.

Bearcats still No. 1 seed material
