HAMILTON 4, MIGHTY DUCKS 2

Too tired to quack

BY DAVE HELLER
Enquirer contributor

The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks battled both Hamilton and exhaustion on Friday night, but couldn't beat either.

After getting back to Cincinnati only a few hours prior to the game against the Bulldogs, the Ducks allowed two late third-period goals in falling to Hamilton 4-2 at Cincinnati Gardens. The Ducks are 1-7-0-3 all-time versus the Bulldogs.

Chris Ferraro gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead with 3:02 remaining, stuffing a rebound that Ducks Tom Askey couldn't contain. Jeff Daw put the game away with a slapshot 1:13 later.

“It wasn't an ideal situation, but you have to battle through it, we're professionals,” Askey said of the team's hectic travel schedule. “We played a good game. There were a couple of weird goals. I don't know what happened there. We deserved to win, but the other goalie played better than I did.”

The Ducks (15-22-0-4) were supposed to arrive back in Cincinnati by plane on Thursday from a brief two game road trip, which ended in Hershey Wednesday night. But thanks to bad weather, the Ducks didn't land in the Queen City until around 1:30 p.m. Friday — by bus. With many players having to retrieve their cars at the airport, most didn't get to their homes until around 2:30 p.m., or three hours before they were to report to the Gardens for the game.

The Ducks' flight out of Harrisburg at 10 a.m. was canceled. A later 1p.m. flight only had three or four available seats. The team then waited in Hershey until 5:30 p.m. for a bus driver to make his way from Philadelphia. At around 1 a.m., they encountered more treacherous weather. The team stayed in Zanesville, leaving for Cincinnati nine hours later.
