Another chapter in their lives
LESBIAN TEEN'S HARD YEAR
The last year has been difficult for Jennie Workman.
Ms. Workman, now 18, was one of four gay, lesbian or bisexual teens featured in the Feb. 12 Enquirer.
She graduated from Sycamore High School in June and moved to Amelia with her girlfriend. That relationship went bad, and Ms. Workman moved back home to Blue Ash to live with her mother and stepfather.
She has enrolled at the University of Cincinnati and is majoring in child psychology.
She's still living at home but plans to move to Clifton early in 1999. She calls the neighborhood one of the few gay-friendly place to live in the Tristate.
Ms. Workman has a new girlfriend, who's 18.
Ms. Workman's story told about her attempted suicide in ninth-grade. She felt she had nothing to live for because she would not be accepted for being a lesbian.
I got some harassment after the article was in the paper, but most of the response was really positive, said Ms. Workman, who was involved in school-based and city-wide support groups for gay teens.
A lot of people came forward for help and support, which was great.
