KENTUCKY 3, MIGHTY DUCKS 2

Mantha: Tired and outmanned

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Coach Moe Mantha made it clear why the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks lost to the Kentucky Thoroughblades 5-3 at the Cincinnati Gardens Sunday afternoon.

“I can't complain about the effort from my team, but our tanks are empty,” Mantha said. “We were playing with seven forwards and four defensemen for much of the game, changing up the lines trying to find the right combination. We're trying our best, but we've got to get some help here (from the parent club) or we won't make the playoffs.”

The loss extended the Mighty Ducks losing streak to a season-high five games and left the club seven games under .500 for the first time this season at 10-17-0-3.

The win was the Thoroughblades' fifth in a row. It was also the third in five days over the Ducks and the seventh in eight tries this season. Kentucky surged past Philadelphia into first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with a league-best 44 points (20-9-1-3).

Cincinnati played Sunday without Terran Sandwith (bruised ribs), Jeremy Stevenson (knee), Tony Tuzzolino (knee) and Tony Mohagen (concussion). The Ducks have missed 84 man-games because of injury this season.

The Ducks begin a six-game road trip Tuesday at Adirondack.
