CYCLONES 3, MICHIGAN 2
Cyclones super in shootouts

The Cyclones affiliations paid dividends on Sunday.
Players on assignment from Ottawa as well as those called up from the team's ECHL Dayton affiliate had key roles in the Cyclones (19-12-3) 3-2 shootout win over Michigan (13-17-4) at the Crown.
The Cyclones are now 10-3 in shootouts with their past five wins at home coming in a shootout.
Goalie Jani Hurme, an Ottawa prospect, stopped 10 of 12 Michigan shootout attempts. Hurme, who made 29 saves in the game, has stopped 30 of 37 attempts on the season. Jeff Shevalier finally bailed Hurme out by scoring on Cincinnati's 12th shootout attempt.
Unbelievable, Cyclones coach Ron Smith said regarding Hurme's play in the shootout. He looked sharp tonight.
Smith has to be especially pleased with the team's rela tionship with Dayton, as three players went down during the game. A handful of Dayton players sporadically practice with the Cyclones.
They've saved us, Smith said. (Defenseman Tom) Nemeth has played really, really well. We're very happy with him.
Defenseman Eric Dandenault left in the first period with a hand injury, left wing Rasto Pavlikovsky injured his clavicle after being slashed in the second period and right wing Ed Patterson also left in the second after taking a stick to the groin. Only Patterson eventually returned to the ice. Dandenault could be out for a month.
This is the worst we've had (with injuries) since I've been here, Smith said. Everybody goes through it. You just have to dig down and fight it out. Give somebody else a chance to do big things.
Brian Secord, called up from Dayton to take the place of Gilbert Dionne, who is out with a rib injury, took advantage of his opportunity, putting the Cyclones ahead, temporarily, 2-1. From the corner, Burt Henderson flipped the puck on net. Phil Crowe, another product of Ottawa, got a piece of the puck, deflecting to his right, where Secord, standing by the right post, then tipped it into the net for his first goal as a Cyclone.
It was the fourth time this season Secord has been recalled by the Cyclones this season, although this was just his fifth game with Cincinnati.
I take it in stride, if a couple of guys are out for a couple of weeks hopefully I can try and do something here, Secord said.
