Main St. area gets garage

Hamilton County broke ground on construction of a 700-car parking garage in Over-The-Rhine Friday.

The garage, behind the Human Services Building at Central Parkway and Main Street, will serve office workers during the day and Main Street bars and restaurants in the evenings.

As-yet undetermined retail shops will occupy the first floor. Completion is scheduled for August 1999.

The $7.2 million project is expected to pay for itself in about a decade with parking revenues, county officials said.
