Eatery manager hurt by robbers

Saturday, July 11, 1998

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Four men robbed the manager of the Arby's Restaurant, 8657 Winton Road, early Friday morning.

Police said as the manager was leaving the restaurant about 1:05 a.m., he was approached by a man in the parking lot, who told him to go back into the store.

After trying to get away by throwing a soft drink at the man, the manager was hit on the head with a gun and forced back into the store.

Inside, the manager was forced to open a safe. Three other men joined the robbery and removed money from the safe while another stayed in the front of the store.

The robbery is under investigation by the sheriff's department.

Ulster Project marks 10 years

The Ulster Project celebrates its 10th anniversary with an ecumenical service Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The project brings Catholic and Protestant teens from Northern Ireland to U.S. cities in the hope that they will build bridges and ease tensions in their native land. 7 winning tickets at 1 grocery

CLEVELAND -- A Buckeye 5 lottery player apparently won and won and won and won and won and won and won.

The winning numbers -- at $1 per ticket -- were played seven times at one Finast grocery store in one minute on Thursday. Each is worth the Ohio Lottery game's top prize of $100,000 for a total of $700,000.

The Buckeye 5 numbers were 14, 17, 20, 22 and 34.

Lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane said Friday the seven plays began at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, about 45 minutes before the drawing. The one-minute, one-location scenario indicates one player probably played the same combination of numbers seven straight times.

Garage being built in Main St. area

Hamilton County broke ground on construction of a 700-car parking garage in Over-The-Rhine Friday.

The garage, behind the Human Services Building at Central Parkway and Main Street, will serve office workers during the day and Main Street bars and restaurants in the evenings.

As-yet undetermined retail shops will occupy the first floor. Completion is scheduled for August 1999.

The $7.2 million project is expected to pay for itself in about a decade with parking revenues, county officials said.
