LINCOLN HEIGHTS -- A seven-year veteran of the city's police department was suspended Thursday following his arrest on a domestic violence charge.
LaRoy Smith, of the 100 block of West 65th Street, Carthage, was arrested Thursday morning on an domestic violence warrant by two of his fellow officers.
"He has been relieved of his police powers," Police Chief Ernie McGowen said.
Asked about the particulars of the domestic violence charge, Chief McGowen referred comment to the Springfield Township police department.
No Springfield Township spokesman was available late Thursday. If Officer Smith is found guilty of domestic violence, he will lose his power to carry a gun under a federal law that prohibits people with domestic violence convictions from carry firearms.
