The Tristate is under a smog alert today. Residents are urged to reduce their driving and to delay lawn mowing and refueling until after 6 p.m.
The Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services called the alert because today's weather is expected to be hot, sunny and relatively still.
Those conditions tend to bake auto exhaust, industrial emissions and other pollutants into ozone, the irritating ingredient in smog.
Thursday's ozone readings remained well below the federal ozone limit, but the alert was precautionary.
This is the final summer that the region, including Hamilton, Butler, Warren, and Clermont counties in Ohio, and Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Kentucky, must comply with the ozone standard.
