The FreeStore - FoodBank in Over-the-Rhine has recognized several residents and companies for outstanding volunteer work:
Marsha Murphy of Provident Bank was named Outstanding Individual Volunteer for helping to organize the Rubber Duck Regatta, a fund-raiser that races toy ducks on the Ohio River.
The Droege House, a residential treatment center for drug addicts and alcoholics, was awarded the Outstanding Group Volunteer award for performing labor for the FreeStore.
The Outstanding Corporate Volunteer award went to the General Electric Elfuns Society, a group of retired and current GE employees who volunteer.
General Mills' local Chex cereal manufacturing plant was awarded the Industrial Donor of the Year award for donating thousands of pounds of cereal.
The Food Drive of the Year award went to Darlene Murphy of Procter & Gamble Co. She organized Operation Share and Care, a companywide food drive.
The Black Male Coalition and Our Daily Bread were recognized for operating "Kids Cafes," places where children can get free meals.
Man's body recovered in Alum Creek Lake
DELAWARE, Ohio -- The body of a fisherman was recovered Sunday in Alum Creek Lake, authorities said.
Wayne Harding, 33, of Irwin, Ohio, was found Sunday morning about seven hours after his 12-foot boat capsized, said Bill Tillman, assistant manager of Alum Creek State Park.
His two companions were able to swim to shore, Mr. Tillman said. The boat capsized in the southwestern part of the lake about 50 to 60 feet from shore after it began taking on water, Mr. Tillman said.
Authorities called off the search about 4 a.m. because of a storm. They found the body in 20 to 25 feet of water within a few minutes of resuming at 7:30 a.m.
One-car crash kills woman in Butler Co.
A woman was killed in a one-car accident early Sunday at on Wayne Trace Road in Wayne Township in northern Butler County.
The Butler County Sheriff's department said the woman lost control of the car, ran off the road and crashed into a utility pole. They did not release her name.
Avondale man, 78, reported missing
Cincinnati police are searching for an elderly Avondale man missing since Wednesday night.
Raymond Clayton Ballard, 78, of the 3600 block of Alaska Avenue, was last seen in Over-the-Rhine when his wife dropped him off about 7 p.m. Wednesday, police reports said.
His wife of 56 years, Virginia Ballard, reported him missing Saturday. While he would occasionally take off for a few days, he would always call in, Mrs. Ballard said.
Mr. Ballard is an African-American, about 5-foot-10 and 220 pounds. He was wearing black shorts, white gym shoes and a white T-shirt. He was wearing a watch on his left wrist and a gold bracelet on his right wrist. His eyes are brown, his hair is gray, and he has scars on his stomach and left arm.

Red Cross offers kids' safety lessons
The Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross will give students age 8-12 the opportunity to become a "Super Safety Saturday Kid" by completing a basic first-aid class 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Blue Ash and downtown offices.
Participants will learn about first aid, rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, fire and poison prevention, water safety, drug education, crime prevention and safety.
Registration is $5, which includes a T-shirt, refreshments and lunch. Prepayment and registration are required.

7-year-old boy dies in Lake Erie mishap
MARBLEHEAD, Ohio -- A 7-year-old boy found in the water at East Harbor State Park along Lake Erie has died, authorities said.
Jonathan Davies of Antwerp, Ohio, had been flown Saturday to Medical College of Ohio Hospital after he was found at the park, about 40 miles east of Toledo.
A family member reported the child missing about 3:45 p.m. He was found about 4:50 p.m.
