XU pressure too much for Bearcats
The Musketeers defense smothered UC's big scorers and forced 29 turnovers. Bobby Brannen got just five points and D'Juan Baker only three.
That blur you saw was Xavier romping
Skip Prosser calls it ''spurtability.'' Gary Lumpkin calls it ''indescribable.'' Mel Levett just says ''damn.'' The Muskies laid a mortal butt-whipping on their crosstown friends.

As usual, XU guards share the moment
Lenny Brown and Gary Lumpkin have been together so long that they may soon start finishing each other's sentences. Yet in all their shared experience there has never been one of those moments any sweeter than this.

Baker, UC starters overwhelmed
D'Juan Baker entered the game with a 26-point average, fifth-best in the NCAA. That he wound up with only three points was damaging enough to the Bearcats' chances. That he only attempted three shots was, however, debilitating.
Crosstown Notebook
UC's most effective player was guard/forward Brent Petrus, a wideout for the football team who joined the basketball team after the season began.
Big man Tate coming to UC
Jermaine Tate, a 6-foot-8 power forward who was Ohio State's leading scorer and rebounder last season, said Saturday he will transfer to UC.
GAME DAY PREVIEW
Rivalry without a rival
Because the game is not televised nationally, even the most ardent basketball fans living outside Cincinnati do not get to see what this series is about and to understand the other 306 Division I college basketball teams have created nothing quite like it.
UC, Xavier love to hate each other
There is a fine line between heckling and harassment, and that line tends to become a little blurry around this time each year. UC-Xavier has become one of college basketball's most compelling rivalries , but it does not always bring out the best in its spectators.

Lineups and facts | Keys to winning
Bearcats need to put a ring around Posey
Today's Crosstown Shootout has the potential for some great matchups: Torraye Braggs and T.J. Johnson on the inside against Bobby Brannen and Kenyon Martin; Lenny Brown vs. D'Juan Baker.
But the one player the Bearcats may have the hardest time preparing for is James Posey.
Horton right at the pressure point
The pressure will be on UC guard Michael Horton when the Xavier defense begins to cover the court, but that will not be new to him. He has faced pressure all week.
Today Channel 9, next year ESPN?
The Crosstown Shootout has never been a network game but the schools' athletic directors say they will look at it in the future. In fact, today's game was nearly on ESPN.
Costs delay Xavier arena
On the eve of the Crosstown Shootout, Xavier announced its $44 million sports arena/convocation center will open about six months later than planned - late spring in 2000 - which will cost the Musketeers basketball teams a season in the new facility.
