Laws of the Jungle: Rules for COAs

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Highlights of the Charter Ownership Agreement (COA) campaign announced Tuesday by Hamilton County officials. A COA reserves location rights in a new Bengals stadium.

The COAs range in price from $300 to $1,500 and are payable in three installments - in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

All Bengals season ticketholders as of Sept. 1, 1996, receive a 10 percent discount. No discount after Jan. 31, 1997.

First priority deadline is Jan. 31, 1997 postmark. Current season ticketholders get first priority, lowest account numbers first.

Order of priority: Season ticket holders who apply by Jan. 31, general public who apply by Jan. 31, all applications postmarked after Jan. 31 and on or before Feb. 28. After Feb. 28 will be in order received.

All orders must be accompanied by a COA application and payment in full of the required deposit by regular mail only for first choice seat. Address is Cincinnati's First Fans, P.O. Box 960736, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45296-0736. Checks payable to Cincinnati's First Fans.

Those who want to sit together must send their first, second, third and fourth choices in the same envelope. The season ticket holder with the highest account number (for shortest tenure) will be used for priority.

Actual seat, row and section numbers will be assigned in summer 1999, when stadium construction has progressed.

All payments are held in escrow. If the stadium is not built, the money will be returned, without interest.

All Bengals season ticketholders must make their COA payments and continue to purchase season tickets in Cinergy Field until the new stadium opens.

Special ''convertible'' club seats are available on the club level. COA payments of $600 plus season tickets assure the purchaser at least six years' use before the Bengals convert the seats to club seats. Owners have right of first refusal to purchase club seats at that time.

COAs may not be transferred before Aug. 1, 2000, except within the immediate family.

As long as season tickets are purchased, COA holders own the right to their seats.
