Carol Traeger is a freelance automotive writer living in San Jose, California. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from California State University, Chico.
Before becoming an automotive journalist, she worked 10 years in the corporate public relations department at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Here she held a number of positions, including editor of Toyota's national dealer magazine, product news administrator (introducing new vehicles to the automotive press), Toyota USA Foundation administrator (making grants to educational programs around the country), and Motorsports administrator (representing Toyota's race teams). During this time, she attended race driving school twice and served as navigator in two off-road desert races. She also was a volunteer member of Toyota's desert race pit crew, camping in the deserts of California, Nevada and Baja to help shepherd Ivan "Ironman" Stewart to many a victory.
She currently is a vice president of Western Automotive Journalists, a West Coast organization dedicated to expanding and improving the profession of automotive journalism.
