"Having a column is like having a hunting license
for sacred cows. It a job that pays me for what everyone else gives away
without even being asked: opinions.
"I write about whatever interests
me. Some columns say things I can't say while writing or editing those
buttoned-down, unsigned editorials that speak for The Enquirer; others are
purely for the fun of writing.
"I try not to take it too seriously, and
use humor to make a point wherever possible.
"I've had enough awards to
wallpaper a closet, but my favorite is still the one granted by ordinary
readers who say, 'I disagree, but I enjoyed your column anyway.'
"Or,
'I put it on the refrigerator.' "
