Cedric Howard, one of Steve Logan's representatives, said he expects the former University of Cincinnati All-American to be selected anywhere from 20 to 35 in tonight's NBA draft.
However, Logan is not listed as one of the 28 first-round picks in any mock drafts on ESPN.com, FOXSports.com, CBS.Sportsline.com, cnnsi.com or SportingNews.com.
Frank Burlison of FOXSports.com wrote: Logan played very well in two games in Chicago (at the NBA predraft camp three weeks ago) probably better than any other point guard prospect in attendance. The size issue isn't going to go away, and that, ultimately, could be the issue that keeps anyone from tabbing him in the first round.
In Chicago, Logan measured 5-foot-10.
UC's No.2 all-time leading scorer has worked out for Toronto, Milwaukee, Denver, Phoenix, Washington, New Jersey and New York. Toronto and Milwaukee have shown the most interest, Howard said.
The Raptors pick No.20. Several mock drafts have Toronto choosing Gonzaga's Dan Dickau, if he's available, or Illinois' Frank Williams.
Milwaukee is No.13 and has three second-round picks (Nos.34, 42, 48).
We are looking to draft a point guard with one of our four picks, and he's on our list, Bucks director of scouting Dave Babcock said. His toughness and his ability to make shots are the two biggest things that stand out to me. It sounds like he's a second-rounder.
Logan said only that he hopes to be selected.
I don't really know what to expect, he said. ... If I end up early second (round), I've got to be OK (with that). Without question, I want to see my name called. Hopefully, it will happen.
Logan averaged 14 points and 7.5 assists in two games in Chicago.
Chris Monter, who publishes Monter Draft News, has Logan rated as the 35th-best draft prospect and the ninth-best point guard.
The knock on him ... will always be his size, at 5-10, and the fact that he's not your prototypical point guard, Monter said. I don't see him as a first-rounder. There are too many players with size in this draft, especially with all the foreigners and all the underclassmen.
Obviously he had a terrific college career. As a first-team All-American this past year, I would think the odds are better that he does get drafted, but I wouldn't be blown away if he wasn't.
During the UC season, Logan was compared to former Detroit guard Joe Dumars, now the Pistons president of basketball operations. Dumars watched Logan in Chicago.
The one thing that comes to mind when I see him is that he knows how to play, Dumars said. That sounds very simple, maybe too simple, but it's a big statement. As a point guard, it's imperative that a guy understands the flow of the game.
Occasionally, (height) becomes an issue. But by and large, if you understand how to play, you can figure out how to get it done. He's one of those players that has to get to the right team. But does he have NBA skills and can he play on that next level? Absolutely.
