With Associated Press first-team All-America added to Steve Logan's honors Tuesday, the University of Cincinnati locker room might need some redecorating.
That's pretty big, coach Bob Huggins said. I think it's fantastic. It's much deserved. Looks like we'll have to build another locker.
UC has special encased lockers with the jerseys of Danny Fortson and Kenyon Martin Huggins' previous All-Americans in its locker room.
Lo's different, but he's as valuable as what they were, Huggins said. Kenyon changed the game defensively. But this guy changes the end of games because he never misses a free throw and he never loses the ball.
The amazing thing is, Danny was very heavily recruited and was a McDonald's All-American and all that, and the other two weren't. Not that Danny didn't work Danny worked his (butt) off but these guys went by people to be able to (win the honor). It's neat whenever guys that work as hard as they worked are rewarded for it.
The only men's basketball jersey numbers that have been retired belong to Martin (4), Oscar Robertson (12) and Jack Twyman (27). Will Logan's No.22 be next?
Athletic director Bob Goin said Tuesday that the athletic department has a Hall of Fame committee that decides such issues.
We do have criteria, Goin said. We'll assess it when the season's over and see how it fits. It certainly seems like he's a candidate.
MAXIELL OK: Jason Maxiell, UC's No.4 scorer and No.2 rebounder, tweaked his knee in practice Monday but is fine, Huggins said.
The freshman was not on crutches or limping Tuesday when he boarded the team bus that was bound for Pittsburgh. Maxiell attended Tuesday's practice.
