Repeat: Logan receives player of week distinction

By Michael Perry
The Cincinnati Enquirer

UC senior Steve Logan was named co-player of the week in Conference USA on Monday, winning the award for the fifth time and the third time in four weeks.

Logan averaged 31 points and seven assists and shot 54.5 percent from the field in victories last week over Saint Louis and Southern Mississippi. Logan's 41 points against the Golden Eagles on Friday night were the most ever in a Conference USA game and the second-highest by a C-USA player.

Debbie Merrill, a freshman on the UC women's team, also wasnamed co-player of the week after averaging 16.5 points and 16 rebounds in victories last week over Marquette and DePaul. Merrill had 26 points and a career-high 19 rebounds against DePaul, her ninth double-double of the season.

The Bearcat women, who play host to Kentucky at 7 p.m. today, have won eight in a row and returned to the Associated Press poll Monday at No.25. UC broke into the rankings for the first time Dec.31 after an 11-0 start, then lost two in a row and fell out.

Cincinnati is one of only six schools with men's and women's teams ranked. The others: Duke, Oklahoma, Florida, Stanford and Georgia.

For good measure, UC junior Brad Dorrmann (Colerain High School) was named C-USA co-hitter of the week.

In three baseball games last weekend, in which he played third base, first base and designated hitter, Dorrmann hit .600 with seven RBI and five runs scored.
